Had an excellent one-day International Conference on, “Comparing Democratic Governance between India and Taiwan”, jointly organized by the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Department of Dr. Ambedkar Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University; Strategic Culture Security Foundation, Pune and the Centre for South and Southeast Asia Studies, Flame University (CSSAS FLAME) on Thursday, 4th May, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at YC NISDA Library Hall, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune – 411007.
The inaugural session began with my welcome remarks and I introduced the guests and briefed the audience about the conference. Professor Roger Liu, Associate Professor, Flame University and Chair, Centre for Southeast Asia Studies shared his remarks. Mr. Ravindra Shingnapurkar, Management Council Member, Savitribai Phule Pune University also shared his remarks which were followed by the remarks of Mr. Jayadeva Ranade, President, Centre for China Analysis and Strategy, New Delhi.
Topic 1 focused on, "Environmental Governance and Disaster Preparedness: Taiwan and India in comparison”. This session was chaired by Air Marshal SS Soman PVSM AVSM VM (Retd) The discussant was Dr. Seshadri Chari and the speakers were Mr. Jayadeva Ranade and Dr. Alan Yang, Distinguished Professor, Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies, National Chenchi University.
Topic 2 focused on BRI as a Factor to Regime Dynamics: Experience from Southeast Asia the speakers were Dr. Arvind Kumar, Professor, American Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The second speaker was Dr. Yung Ming Yen, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Tunghai University.
Topic 3 laid emphasis on E-Government/Trade/Investment and Dem. Governance. The speakers were Prof. (Dr.) Shrikant Paranjpe, Former Head, Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University and Dr. Chia Chien Chein Chang, Assistant Professor, Institute of China and Asia Pacific Studies, National Sun Yat-Sen University.
Session 2 was scheduled post lunch and two topics were covered.
Topic 1 was related to Public Health Governance in Crisis. Topic 2 was related to Foreign Policy.
The Chairperson for this session was Lt General Hasabnis, PVSM VSM ADC (Retd.) The discussant was Prof. Liyaqat Khan who is a Professor in the Department of Civics and Politics, University of Mumbai. The second speaker was Miss. Namrata Hasija, Research Fellow, Centre for China Analysis and Strategy, New Delhi along with Dr. Ian Tsung-yen-Chen, Associate Professor, Institute of Political Science, National Sun Yat-Sen University. The speakers for Foreign Policy were Prof. Dilip Mohite, Former Dean and Professor and Head, Department of Political Science, MS University, Baroda, Gujarat, along with Dr Alan Yang and Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale, PVSM AVSM VM (Retd).
The International Conference concluded with the valedictory remarks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Khare, HoD, DDSS, SPPU.
